Seven simple steps to happiness you can take right NOW

Let’s face it, no matter what our specific goals may be – a great relationship, dream job, beautiful home, financial security – isn’t our primary goal simply to be happy? The United States Constitution promises its citizens Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’. Notice it says ‘pursuit’. Yes, you can go after it but there is no guarantee you will catch it! And therein lies the paradox. Once we set off in pursuit of something it often remains elusive no matter how fast we run. The thing about happiness is, that no matter what is going on in our lives, we can choose to stop pursuing it and let it come to us – simply by shifting our focus.

1. Shift Your Focus

Where attention goes energy flows. No matter what is happening in your life, every time you find your attention dwelling for too long on a problem, shift your energy towards something you are grateful for. It doesn’t matter how small or insignificant this seems, but concentrating on something positive, you start to create a shift.

2. Let Go

The fact is that there are some things we just cannot change and that all of us have challenges to face in life. Acknowledging that there is nothing more you can do opens up new possibilities. Also, we need to understand that things happen in their own time. Once we give up the idea that we have to have a specific outcome right now in order to be happy, we start living in the moment – and being happy in it. That’s why it’s called the present!

3. Surround Yourself with Support

We are all walking our chosen paths and are glorious, magnificent souls. But some people are blind to their own potential. We all know people who seem to constantly stumble from one crisis to another (and appear to enjoy it!) or just seem to want to spread negativity. If happiness is your goal then avoiding them or at least limiting the time you spend around them, is a huge step in the right direction. Choose to be around people who raise your energy vibration – not dampen it down.

4: Ask for Spiritual Help

Ask your guides/angels/the universe to put the right people or opportunities in your path and trust that your request will be answered. However – please be open-minded about what form help may appear in. We often entertain angels unawares.

5: Don’t Give Up!

You know where you want to get to – happiness. When we plant a seed it takes time to germinate and grow, right? You’ve set a new intention. Now, be willing to wait to see the new shoots appear and give the universe time to respond. Know you’re now on your way.

6: Be Okay With Your Thoughts

Nobody can be positive all the time. I do hope you’ve not bought into the myth that if things aren’t going right for you that you’ve somehow ‘created’ this situation in your life or that you are contributing to it by feeling frustrated or depressed? Nobody ‘chooses’ to experience loss or setbacks. There’s a huge difference between consciously directing our thoughts towards something positive and blaming them for what we feel is wrong in our lives. It’s natural when things go wrong for us to experience feelings of sadness, frustration, anger and loss. Obviously if these feelings result in depression you should seek medical help. But fighting them and feeling you shouldn’t feel what you are feeling only traps you in the negative cycle. What we resist, persists.

7: Trust Yourself

Know that inside you, you have access to an unlimited source of deep, intuitive wisdom. There are no bad choices, just learning experiences. When the next opportunity arrives, trust that you’re going to make the right decision – and that could just be choosing happiness as your goal right now.
