Journal Magic – Creating your future, healing your past

“In the journal I do not just express myself more openly than I could to any person; I create myself.” Susan Sontag

Journal magic is real! You may have noticed that many of the Tarot, psychic development and QC exercises I give you suggest you write in your journal. Journals serve a far greater purpose than just being the means to keep tracking of readings you do or your goals. They can be pure magic!

Regaining Faith

In ‘Diary,’ the motto really is: ‘Where Do You Get Your Inspiration?’ It coaches us to be aware of our motives and not just be a reaction to the circumstances around us. Chuck Palahniuk

It’s easy to lose faith in our goals and stop the work we need to do to attain them when they appear to be taking longer than we might like to manifest. Not only can our journals serve to remind us of how far we’ve come, they also keep us on track. They are a powerful tool for self-transformation too!

Yes, Bridget Jones had the right idea when she talked about ‘telling the truth about Bridget Jones’ in her diary. The great thing about keeping a journal is that is acts not just as a platform for us to vent about what is worrying us at a given time, but it also allows our imagination free-rein to come up with solutions for us as we engage the non-judgemental and creative parts of our brain. So let’s explore journal magic.

Journals the chronicles of our soul journey

Journals form a chronicle of our soul journey here on Earth. How many of you who keep journals have gone back and re-read your journals months or even years later? What stands out for most people when they do this is that the problems and challenges they faced back then in their lives have been resolved or are just no longer issues for them.

We are also reminded to the goals we set ourselves and how they have either come about – or changed. When we re-visit the past in this way and re-read our entries, any problems or issues we may be facing in the present lose their power as our journals remind us of how far we have come, how we dealt with any issues back then and how they are no longer issues for us today.

We understand that no matter what may be happening now, we have the power deal with it and in time, no matter how bad things may seem right now, it will cease to be a problem for us – just like our old problems are today. So we can tap back into our strength.

Journals as a soul manual

“Writing is medicine. It is an appropriate antidote to injury. It is an appropriate companion for any difficult change.”Julia Cameron

If we face similar problems years later our journals show us the way forward. They let us know that the approach we used in the past didn’t work, and we must now try a new one.

They remind us that often letting time step in is the way forward. This can be anything from attaining a goal to solving a problem. A friend of mine told me about his journals and how he found an old one in the back of his desk one day. He re-read the list of goals he had made five years ago and realised every single one had come true – yet many seemed impossible at the time he made the entry.

Your Journal as a soul compass

“Journal writing, when it becomes a ritual for transformation, is not only life-changing but life-expanding.”Jennifer Williamson

Our journals act as a soul compass allowing us to navigate into the future and make sense of our past. If you haven’t yet got into the practice of keeping a journal, or only use it for readings and goal-setting, then why not start a dialogue with your inner self via your journal today? A personal journal has been described as ‘Life’s companion’ and it really can be the friend that goes with us throughout our lives and like any best friend, reminds us of our victories, our strengths, and just how far we’ve come.
